It has already become a tradition that on Friday, the eve of the holiday, schoolchildren are served a typical Andalusian breakfast for free, consisting of a glass of orange juice and a slice of bread, which is finely moistened with olive oil.

Saint Onesimus was revered among the peasants as the patron saint of sheep, therefore he was nicknamed the Sheepdog or Sheepdog. In order for the sheep to give a good offspring, on this day it was necessary to conduct a special ritual - to “hail” stars in the sky. He was led by shepherds (shepherds). As it gets dark and the sky becomes starry, the shepherd went to the edge of the village and weighed three prayers on all four sides with prayers. Then he stood on the fleece and cast a spell (hail). It was considered a good sign if the sky that day was strewn with bright stars. After the ritual, the owner invited the shepherd to the house, generously treated him and gave him gifts.
The peasants still had one tradition - to clean hemp oil on Onesim. It was mixed with snow, put in a warm place or under the sun. Thawed snow absorbed impurities from the oil. Then the container was left in the cold. Over night, a dirty and muddy aqueous liquid settled at the bottom and turned into ice, leaving a clear, clarified oil above.
